We recently sat down with Northern Insight to discuss why video is in such high demand. As video continues to be the most engaging form of online content, any marketer or business owner who wants to stay on top of the digital marketing game should be mindful about what types of videos are most on-trend right now, and what to expect for 2022.

With that in mind, here are our top 5 video trends of 2022!

1. Live Videos

The live video streaming market is huge, and it’s only getting bigger. Live videos serve as proof of authoritativeness, as they demonstrate your ability to show knowledge in your field immediately. By presenting your content in a live video, you are also indicating you are present and available for interaction with your customer base. In the past we’ve live streamed gigs, conferences, fund raisers and even tutorials but we can live stream pretty much anything! A live cook-off where the crew gets the leftovers? Yes please!

Below is a great example of a live video we produced for Maximo Park frontman, Paul Smith.

2. Explainer Videos

An explainer video is a short-form video usually used for marketing or sales purposes that highlights a company’s product, service, or business idea. It is significantly easier for a customer or client to digest the information in an engaging video than in text. Our advice – use both! Use video to quickly secure interest and follow up with detail via traditional means.

According to Hubspot 94% report watching explainer videos to learn more about a product, with 84% being swayed to make a purchase. The team at Turps HQ are guilty of this ourselves having bought enough lighting equipment to illuminate the Tyne Bridge after recommendations from Hollywood DPs on youtube.

3. Product Showcase Videos

Let’s face it, some products are just really hard to either sum up in a single image or even make them look attractive at all! (software, construction and service industries come to mind here!) and many customers are looking for realistic, detailed pictures and descriptions of products and services when shopping online. Videos are a great way of showing details and presenting the products in a more relatable context.

The 360° function of a showcase video can be also used to present anything where the visual element can sell itself and give the user an idea of your brand’s personality.

4. Recruitment Videos

The past couple of years have been tough for a LOT of businesses. Certain industries have really struggled to keep their staff intake levels up. This could be due to a huge variety of reasons but a solution we’ve seen a lot of clients pursue is to SHOW their audience exactly what type of company they are. If you’ve got flexible working hours, if your MD started at the ground level, if you have industry leading tech, don’t just list it on a job post. Make a video to show candidates what life at your company is like! We’ve seen fantastic results from just 1 day of filming resulting in a dozen deliverables for social media and company websites.

Here is a great example of how powerful recruitment videos can be in sharing your brand story.

 5. Vertical Videos

Choosing a vertical format for your videos is crucial if you want to avoid awkward resizing and the lack of optimising across devices and social media platforms. Vertical videos are less likely to be cropped by mobile websites, and they are preferred to horizontal ones by many online users. Here at Turps Film we shoot our projects with deliverables in mind to ensure we can output in a range of sizes which allows our clients to use the footage across any desired platform.

 So, what’s next?

The increasing importance of video means that creating high-quality video content is essential for staying a step ahead of the competition.
