Whether you’re completely new to video and the process involved or just have some general queries on how we work, we’ve put together a selection of frequently asked questions (FAQs) below. We hope this answers any of your burning questions but of course if you have anything else or just want a general chat, let’s talk.

“HOW DO YOU APPROACH VIDEO CONTENT”

MEETING

We work to understand your business and it’s goals from day one and working with a video production agency like us can be a surprisingly simple process. We will discuss your audience, stylistic preferences and desired outcomes to set a plan for creating engaging, tailored video content that’s right for your video project.

PRE-PRODUCTION

After talking through your brief, we get to work! We produce a detailed project treatment which outlines every step of a professional video production; from the script and storyboard to casting, branding and health and safety considerations.

PRODUCTION

When it comes to creative video production, we direct to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible so that everyone feels confident and relaxed in front of the lens. This stage of your video production will see us create your content, working with sets, products and participants to get the perfect shots.

POST-PRODUCTION

We gather all of the footage captured on your shoot and edit together an initial cut based on the original brief, keeping your desired goals and audience in mind. This gets sent to you for feedback so we can tweak until things are just right.

DELIVERY

Once amendments are finalised, we deliver your final film. We help you figure out how and where to host it whether that be on-site, social media or hosting sites like Youtube or Vimeo. We even help with the distribution so all your audience have to do is press ‘Play.’

YOUR FAQS ANSWERED

OUR PROCESS

From the first phone call to the final delivery, we keep things clear and collaborative. A typical video project with us involves:

  1. Pre-production: We plan everything from scripting, scheduling, casting (if needed) to shot lists.

  2. Production: We film on location or in a studio using professional kit, capturing interviews, B-roll, and everything else we’ve agreed in pre-production.

  3. Post-production: We edit the footage, add music, graphics, subtitles, and give it that professional finish.

  4. Review & Delivery: You’ll get a first cut to review, followed by tweaks based on your feedback.

We’ll guide you through each stage – you don’t need to be a video expert to work with us.

It really depends on the scope. A simple social edit or talking head video can be turned around quickly sometimes within a week or two while a larger animation or multi-location shoot will naturally take longer.

We don’t do ‘one-size-fits-all’. Instead, we agree timelines with you during the initial planning stage, so everything’s aligned before we get started. If you’ve got a deadline in mind (or one fast approaching), just let us know (we’re used to working to fixed dates when needed).

We’ve got you covered. Some clients come with a draft, others give us bullet points and let us run with it.

We offer full scriptwriting and storyboarding as part of our pre-production, and we’ll always send drafts for signoff before we shoot. If you need help shaping the story, we’ll guide you through that too.

Absolutely! You’re hiring us for a reason and we love our clients to be a part of the process. You can be as hands-on or hands-off as you like. Some clients want to be updated with every step in the process, others trust us to steer the ship. Either works.

We’ll always run key creative decisions past you (like script, visual style, and music choices), and you’ll get preview cuts with time for feedback.

We typically include three rounds of amends as standard (this would be outlined in our initial quote). That’s usually more than plenty to wrap everything up, but if you need more, we can accommodate we’ll just discuss extra time or costs beforehand.

Yes from finding the right people to sorting permits and catering, we can handle the lot! Whether we’re filming on your premises or sourcing actors for a scenario-based training film, we manage it all in-house.

If you have specific people or places in mind, we’re equally happy to work with what you’ve got.

Definitely (and it often brings authenticity). We’ve filmed real staff, clients and community members across sectors from healthcare to manufacturing.

We’ll help make people feel comfortable on camera and guide them through the process to get natural results.

We build in contingency time where needed and keep an eye on forecasts. If bad weather threatens an outdoor shoot, we’ll either reschedule or adapt the plan.

If a delay is due to client-side changes (e.g. cancelled locations or unavailable contributors), we may need to charge for any additional days but we’ll always discuss options first.

We produce everything from brand films to short snappy edits for social. Common types include:

  • Corporate and promotional films

  • Recruitment and culture videos

  • Internal communications and training content

  • Documentary-style profiles and case studies

  • 2D and 3D animation

We also repurpose long-form content into cut-downs, subtitled clips, or platform-specific formats like 1:1, 9:16 or 4:5.

Our Work Overview: Showreel

Yes, we do both. Animation can be a great option when you need to explain complex ideas, visualise things you can’t film, or keep things on-brand without arranging a shoot.

We offer:

  • 2D animation (motion graphics, explainer style)

  • 3D animation (product demos, simulations)

  • Mixed media (animation layered over live action)

Examples of Our Animation Work here.

In simple terms:

  • 2D animation is flat and graphic like what you’d see in most explainer videos or icon-based motion graphics.

  • 3D animation adds depth, lighting, and realism. Great for product visualisation, simulations, or anything where movement and space matter.

Not sure what you need? We’ll advise you based on the purpose, budget, and style you’re after.

Absolutely. We always think about where your video is going, and can format content for LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok.

We can deliver:

  • Teasers and short cutdowns

  • Subtitled versions

  • 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16 aspect ratios

  • Still grabs for thumbnails or carousels

Tip: Ask us about platform-specific formatting during planning and we’ll make sure it’s factored in.

Yes we can bring in a trusted stills photographer if you want both video and photography on the same day. We’ll manage everything so it’s seamless.

Photography is often used for:

  • PR or press packs

  • Website banners

  • Social campaigns

  • Product or location stills to match the video

Let us know early on if you’d like stills included and we’ll build it into the schedule and final quote.

We shoot on cinema-grade cameras (like the Sony FX6/FX9), professional lighting rigs, sliders, gimbals, and high-end audio kit. The exact gear depends on the shoot, but we always aim for a polished, professional look.

For example, we’ve used:

  • Laowa probe lenses for detailed product work

  • Gimbal setups for smooth tracking shots

  • Drone footage for dramatic exteriors

  • Colouramas and rigs for interview setups

See behind the scenes on Instagram (@turpsfilm)

We mostly film on location at your site, office, factory, warehouse, or outdoors. If you need a studio, we can arrange one through our network of local partners.

We’ve filmed:

  • In homes, schools, shops, beaches and head offices

  • Inside warehouses, hospitals, care homes and community centres

  • Against studio backdrops for interviews or products

Yes we use CAA-approved drone operators and regularly capture aerial shots for exterior locations, landscapes, and opening sequences.

Drones are great for:

  • Construction and manufacturing

  • Events and parades

  • Property and tourism

  • Establishing shots and transitions

Let us know about airspace or location constraints and we’ll work around them.

Yes, it’s all part of the service with Turps Film. We provide:

  • Subtitles for accessibility or silent social scrolling

  • Professional voiceover artists in a variety of styles

  • Translated or localised versions of your video in multiple languages

  • Voice-to-subtitle combinations for different regions

Check out our multi-language film with Norton here.

Subtitles and voiceover can be added during post, so don’t worry if your audience needs evolve later.

WORKING WITH TURPS FILM

We’ve worked across a wide range of industries from manufacturing to public sector, education to healthcare, and everything in between. Our clients include well-known brands, local councils, national charities, tech companies, universities, and arts organisations.

Some of the sectors we know inside out:

  • Manufacturing & Construction

  • Healthcare & Social Care

  • Education & Training Providers

  • Public Sector & Local Authorities

  • Arts, Culture & Community Projects

  • B2B Agencies & Consultancies

Each one brings its own challenges and we love adapting our approach to suit. If you’re not sure whether your sector fits, get in touch. Odds are, we’ve done something similar.

We’re based in North Shields, just outside Newcastle upon Tyne, and we work across the North East, UK-wide, and occasionally abroad.

Most of our shoots are in:

  • Newcastle, Sunderland, Durham, Northumberland

  • Yorkshire, the North West, Midlands

  • London and the South East

  • Occasionally Europe (client dependent)

We travel where the project needs us and we’ll always factor travel time and costs into the quote so there are no surprises.

It depends on the type of video, number of filming days, crew needed, and how much editing or animation is involved. But we’re always upfront with our pricing and we’ll give you a breakdown that fits your goals and budget.

Want to know how we price up a job, see our video costing blog for details.

Yes! If you’ve got a product launch, internal comms deadline, or campaign date to hit, let us know early and we’ll build the project around it.

We’ll always be honest about what’s achievable in the time you’ve got and if we need to scale the crew or bring in extra editors, we’ll let you know upfront.

Most of our quotes are fixed once we’ve agreed the scope so there are no surprises down the line. If you’re unsure on exact deliverables or want to leave room for extras, we can offer ballpark pricing with options.

Yes. We carry public liability insurance and work with trusted, DBS-checked crew. This is especially important when filming in schools, healthcare settings, or community environments.

We can provide certificates on request during the planning stage.

We’re an independent, family-run video agency, not a corporate giant and we’re often told “we’re a really canny bunch.”

Clients often tell us they chose us because we’re approachable, collaborative, and we don’t overcomplicate things. They also come back time and again because of their experience with us- just check out our Google reviews for their feedback.

You’ll be working directly with the people making your film throughout the process for that personal experience. And, we genuinely care about every single project we work on and every client we work with.

GETTING STARTED

It’s simple just get in touch and tell us what you need (even if you’re not sure yet). We’ll usually start with a short call to understand your goals, audience, and budget, then we’ll follow up with a suggested approach and a quote.

We’re happy to work from a brief, bullet points, or just a rough idea.

Yes and don’t worry – this is really common. We specialise in a variety of video types from corporate videos to brand films to commercials and animations.

You don’t need to arrive with a full brief. Just let us know:

  • Who it’s for

  • What you want it to achieve

  • Any deadlines or rough ideas

We’ll recommend the format, style, and scope that’ll work best for your goals.

Of course. We’re always happy to chat through an idea with no pressure or hard sell. Drop us a message or give us a ring and we’ll get something in the diary.

If you already have a rough brief, we can put a ballpark quote together quickly. If not, we can work with you on this and see what would be the best fit for your needs.

We’re always happy to help with smaller edits, one-off interviews, or cutting down existing footage provided there’s space in the diary.

We also support agencies or teams who need flexible post-production help.

Let us know what you’ve got and what you’re aiming for and we’ll be honest about what’s possible and cost-effective.

Ideally we need a few weeks in advance to book a shoot in to allow sufficient time for pre-production but we know that’s not always possible.

We do keep some flexibility in our calendar, so feel free to get in touch even if your timeline’s short. If we can make it work, we will.
