“Q3?! It’s that time again already to recap on the last few months! Autumn is here which means we can start to mention the ‘C’ word right? Obviously, I’m referring to Christmas which I can’t believe is creeping upon us and we’ve got a gazillion new projects coming your way before then. It’s been an incredible summer for us here at Turps from shoots, to generating new client proposals and preparing for something also coming in December (more on that later!).
Relax, grab a cuppa (preferably a pumpkin spiced latte) and read about our Summer here at Turps Film.”

Q3 at Turps Film
With the risk of sounding like a broken record, Q3 at Turps Film has been nuts. We’re already thinking about the Christmas hibernation and gallons of eggnog waiting for us during the break but before then, we’ve got a lot of editing to tackle!
Here’s a small look at what we’ve been up to over July to September here at Turps Film HQ.
St Oswald’s Hospice – Bereavement & Social Work Campaign
We’ve worked with St Oswald’s on several campaigns now, and this latest one might be the most important yet. Filmed over several days in August, this new campaign focuses on their bereavement and social work services and the people behind them.
We captured moving interviews with families, support workers, and patients, shining a light on how St Oswald’s provides help long before and long after end-of-life care. We can’t give too much away with the content but the shoot was planned to create a main film, some focus stories and some added content for a future fundraising campaign.
Editing is now underway, with release due this autumn. With hours and hours of footage to go through, Dominic our editor really has a task on his hands with this one but we know it’ll be amazing as always from him.

In case you missed it, here’s a look back at the Focus on Living Film we produced last year for St Oswald’s Hospice:
Lit & Phil x Little Inventors – Celebrating 200 Years of Ideas
To mark its 200th anniversary, Newcastle’s iconic Lit & Phil Library teamed up with Little Inventors to launch a children’s invention challenge and we were brought in to capture the awards, workshops and makers behind the inventions.
We created this video filmed in the Lit & Phil, showcasing the space, the people behind the challenge, and the young minds it hopes to inspire. With cutaways of invention sketches, interviews with staff from Little Inventors and the Lit & Phil, one of the Little Inventors themselves and the award ceremony.
This was a lovely one to be part of and a rare chance to film inside the UK’s largest independent library outside London.
The video will be used for stakeholders, future funding and inspiration for young minds!
Animating Ashington – The Big Finale
It’s hard to believe, but Animating Ashington has officially come to a close. Over the last 10 months, we’ve followed the Walk the Plank team across parades, light nights, torchlit processions and community workshops all culminating in the Powering the Future Parade in July.
This final event was a celebration of creativity and local pride, featuring hundreds of residents, schools, performers and volunteers. We filmed the parade itself, plus the build-up and rehearsals, interviews with key contributors, and all the small moments that brought it to life.
Here’s some the other videos we captured as part of the programme:
Sunderland Vaping Awareness Animation – Delivered
The vaping awareness animation we developed with Sunderland City Council has now been delivered and published.
This 2D animation was co-developed with local media students and designed to speak directly to their peers. The voiceover was also carried out by the local students.
Our goal was to keep it engaging without preaching. The video is to be shared across schools and youth services in the region.
Personal News: A Turps Baby Is On the Way
In slightly less technical news… Luke and Claire are expecting their first baby this December!
Announced back in June, it’s been a very exciting time for Team Turps and while there’s still a lot of prep to do before Claire goes off on maternity, we’re all ready to welcome the newest member of the crew.
Don’t worry, business will continue as usual, Luke may just need extra strong coffee on shoots!
